Downtown Duluth's 2026 holiday season runs eight weeks. It opens with a beer festival on Town Green this Saturday and closes with an adults-only silent disco on January 2. The city's calendar holds no single tree-lighting night to build the season around. The returning Frosty Fun series spreads more than a dozen small dates across Town Green, the Activity Lawn, Red Clay Theater, the Duluth Festival Center and Parsons Alley, and Deck the Hall on December 5 is the one long afternoon.
That spread changes how a season gets planned. The dates fall into two groups. The evening events for grown-ups have limited seats and need registration now. The drop-in afternoons for families cluster after December 19. Planning around those two windows covers nearly everything on the calendar.
The season starts before Frosty Fun does. Good Word Brewing's Mighty Fine Invitational, which doubles as the brewery's ninth-anniversary party, runs Saturday, November 7, from 1 to 5 p.m. on Duluth Town Green at 3142 Hill St. Good Word's event page describes it as a beer festival where participating brewers bring different styles, with pro wrestling, DJ BlaqMozart and an artist market.
General admission is $55. It includes a 5-ounce taster glass, entry at 1 p.m. and tastings from more than 40 breweries. VIP is $75 and includes entry at 12:30 p.m., a commemorative glass, a beer redemption at Good Word and a private tent with drinks and oysters. The City of Duluth's listing notes that the event happens rain or shine and that ticket sales are final.
Mighty Fine shows how the rest of the season works. It's a ticketed, adults-oriented afternoon on the Green, booked in advance, with a fixed start time. Several Frosty Fun dates later in the season follow the same model on a smaller scale.
Most Frosty Fun dates are free walk-ups. Five are not, and four of them are aimed at adults.
| Event | Date and time | Venue | What the city lists |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hunger Games Pop-Up | Sunday, Nov. 22, 2–5 p.m. | Duluth Town Green | Game entry requires registration and is open to ages 18+; spectators of all ages welcome |
| Jazz Legacy Project: A Tribute to Duke Ellington's Nutcracker | Wednesday, Dec. 2, 6:30 p.m. | Red Clay Theater | $11 seat reservation, includes a Red Clay bar credit |
| Ornament Making | Sunday, Dec. 20, 2–4 p.m. | Duluth Festival Center | Registration required |
| Dueling Pianos | Tuesday, Dec. 22, 7–9 p.m. | Red Clay Theater | $11 seat reservation, includes a Red Clay bar credit |
| Silent Disco Night | Saturday, Jan. 2, 2027, sessions at 7 and 9 p.m. | Duluth Festival Center | Ages 18+, registration required |
The two Red Clay nights work like small-venue shows. For the December 2 performance, the Jazz Legacy Project plays Duke Ellington's Nutcracker Suite, his swing reworking of Tchaikovsky's score. The $11 reservation goes through Eddie Owen Presents, and the city's event page says it covers a credit at the Red Clay bar that night for beer, wine, water or soda, plus a snack. Dueling Pianos on December 22 uses the same $11 setup.
The Hunger Games pop-up and the Silent Disco share a registration page on Eventeny. On November 22, adults who register compete on Town Green in themed challenges. Anyone else can come in costume and cheer from the sidelines. The Silent Disco runs in two sessions, 7 to 8:30 p.m. and 9 to 10:30 p.m., with wireless headphones and glowing décor at the Festival Center. Ornament Making on December 20 is the one family event in this group that needs registration.
The first long stretch of free Frosty Fun falls on the three days after Thanksgiving. The roller-skating rink on the Activity Lawn runs Friday, November 27, from 1 to 6 p.m., Saturday, November 28, from noon to 7 p.m., and Sunday, November 29, from noon to 5 p.m.
The rink page covers the details families plan around. Skating and rentals are free, in sizes from kids' 10 to adult 14. A limited number of skate aids are available for beginners. Skating is recommended for ages 3 and up, and every skater needs a waiver signed on site. If the rink gets busy, sessions may be limited to one hour. It's a roller rink, the same setup the city ran in 2024.
Two days earlier, on Tuesday, November 24, Seek Duluth starts at 3 p.m. as a downtown scavenger hunt. Its first clue is at the Christmas tree on Town Green.
Deck the Hall is the season's one long afternoon. It runs Saturday, December 5, from 2 to 7 p.m. downtown, with Santa visits, holiday characters, crafts, live music, story time, a holiday market and a snow slide and playground. The event is back for another year. The city's 2024 calendar of events listed Deck the Hall and Frosty Fun among its returning favorites, and its December 2025 recap described carolers, crafts, Santa and snow play.
After December 5, the city calendar has no Frosty Fun dates until December 19. That leaves two open weeks in early December, and then the schedule fills up quickly.
From Saturday, December 19, through New Year's Eve, Frosty Fun has something on seven different days. Several fall on weekday afternoons, which suits a family planning around a winter break:
Read in order, the list moves around downtown. Most of these events are on Town Green, in Parsons Alley or near the Activity Lawn, and the Christmas tree on Town Green is the starting point for both the November scavenger hunt and the December story walk. Of the family dates in this stretch, Ornament Making is the only one that needs registration, so most of the week of December 21 can be planned one afternoon at a time.
Every Frosty Fun venue is within walking distance of downtown restaurants. Good Word Brewing & Public House at 3085 Main St opens at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday through Sunday and at 5 p.m. on Mondays, which makes it an easy stop before an afternoon event on the Green. Truck & Tap at 3137 Main St opens at 3 p.m. on weekdays and at noon on weekends, and its site posts a weekly food-truck lineup.
For the earlier slots, Maple Street Biscuit Company in Parsons Alley at 3550 W Lawrenceville St serves from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays and until 3 p.m. on weekends. That covers breakfast before the Noon Year's Eve event on December 31. Noona Meat & Seafood is also in Parsons Alley and takes reservations, which helps before a Red Clay show. Niko's Wine Cellar at 3129 Main St has a wine tasting on the downtown calendar for November 5.
The city's downtown directory lists more options near the Green, including Pure Taqueria and Crave Pie Studio on Main Street, Ginkgo Bakery & Cafe and Alchemist Coffee on West Lawrenceville Street, and Break Coffee Roasters on Hill Street.
The last date of the series is the Silent Disco at the Duluth Festival Center on Saturday, January 2, 2027, with sessions at 7 and 9 p.m. for ages 18 and up.
